Benefits of recycling

Most people consider toner and ink cartridges to be disposable, and in a sense, they are. Once the ink is completely used up, the cartridges no longer serve and immediate purpose. However, consumers need to realize that throwing away your inkjet cartridges are not only bad for the environment, but could potentially save them money if they would just recycle.

Research studies suggest that our landfills contain approximately 350 million cartridges, and that estimate is growing at an alarming rate. With the growth in demand for printers and ink, the amount of empty cartridges wasted per year is increasing almost 10% every single year. This number is frightening considering the toner and ink cartridges are not bio-degradable and can take up to 1,000 years for the cartridges to fully decompose.

Researchers estimate that about 90% of the used toner and ink cartridges are disregarded every year. Those used cartridges in most cases still retain some leftover ink or toner inside of the cartridges. The liquid ink or powder toner will find their way out of the plastic container and into the soil, causing major issues under the surface.

By choosing to use a remanufactured inkjet or toner cartridge, one can contribute to one less plastic cartridge is needed to be molded. We can help perserving our environment by reducing the oil needed to mold the plastic container and reduce the landfill space needed to dispose of the used plastic containers.

What we are doing to help

Ink and toner cartridges can be recycled and professionally remanufactured a number of times while maintaining the quality of prints. Even when an empty cartridge has been determined to be unfit to be remanufactured for printing purposes, the plastic can still be melted and used in the production of something else. There really is no reason to throw away something that could be beneficial in so many ways.

The good news is that the printing industry is making a conscious effort to make recycling as easy as possible, and here at Toner Spot, we are also taking the initiative to contribute to this positive movement. We are currently designing a recycling program that is easy and provide a monetary incentive for our customers to recycle their empty cartridges. Come visit us soon for this exciting upcoming program!
